The Domain in your Bookmarks

leave a comment »

Okay, folks, quick update to say that from now on you should be able to typ in wildwhb.com and get here. (You will also still be able to get here from wildwhb.wordpress.com, but the new domain is a bit more streamlined and easier to remember.)

(For those of you more technical minded, right now I’m only forwarding the domain, and masking it — so domain mapping will not yet be going on. For links to specific posts, you should still use the wordpress version.)

The Sanderlings in the Tide

These guys were great fun to watch, running back and forth against the tide. It brought back fond memories of doing the same thing as a child, although not quite for the same reasons.

These sanderlings were digging up their meals, insects that can be found by poking at the sand.

Fun fact: the sanderling has a large winter territory, covering coastlines from South America to the northern United States. In the summer, they return to the Arctic to breed.

The Osprey Over the Pond

Geez. Apologies for the quality of the photo — this darn osprey manages to elude being photographed well every time! I believe this to be the same osprey (or maybe its mate) previously photographed poorly at the duck pond. This time my excuse is that it was rainy, and I wound up exposing for the sky instead of the bird, so it took some photo-manipulation magic to see anything in this picture beyond a black blob.

I promise here and now that before the summer is out I will get a phenomenal photo of this osprey, even if I have to park my butt on the bench for hours every day to do it.
